Project 01.
The best of a yoga practice – ecological perspective.
Partner Lululemon Canada
The aim of this mixed methods study was to capture rich data, through guided journaling on a committed yoga practice over a 4 week period. Focusing on the place (studio, interactive online or online videos), feelings that emerged within and after each practice (Exercise Induced Feeling Inventory EFI, Gauvin et al.,1993), and a sense of connection (Social Connectedness Scale, Lee et al., 1995) with others was captured. It was found that yoga in home or studio settings provides a homeostatic value. Whether feeling low on energy or stressed and busy, it was found that yoga shifted feelings towards that of “refreshed”, a renewal of energy and strength. Further, a supportive setting, warm, calm, and good music aided in the yoga experience.
Project 02.
Validating Lululemon’s Signature Online HIIT Class
Partner Lululemon Canada
This project dug into the delivery of online fitness classes, bringing in components of body and mind. With a focus on connection, fitness and recovery we captured the qualitative experiences of 28 participants in 2 different online classes (The Class and Lululemon’s BreatheOut). We found the optimal body/mind fitness class can have lasting influence that we take into other arenas of life – perseverance, self talk, push & recovery…Some characteristics of a well liked class include: sessions lasting 45 min or less, theme & connection to the participants, challenge level was moderate to intense, simple to follow, all which lead to an overarching feeling of being empowered.
